Five states are included in
the Pacific region: Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and
Washington. Each has coastline on the Pacific Ocean. California
is generally known as a western state while Oregon and
Washington are considered to be the Pacific Northwest. Alaska
is northwest while Hawaii is in mid-Pacific.
The states in this region have different ethnic
and cultural backgrounds. While California, Oregon, and
Washington were settled by Europeans, Mexicans and
settlers moving from the Plains states and the East, Alaska and
Hawaii have native cultures that go back thousands of years.
