During the fall tours are
conducted through this region due to the beautiful, changing
foliage. Fall comes earlier in this region than other regions
of the United States.
New England is in the northeastern corner of
the United States. It was the first area settled in 1620 when
English settlers arrived at Massachusetts Bay.
The inhabitants of this region served as the
catalyst for the Boston Tea Party and the abolition of slavery.
The Industrial Revolution of the United States got its start in
this region.
The landscape of the region is mountaineous and
valley. The coastline is jagged with sandy beaches. There are
lakes, hills, and swamps. The Appalachian Mountain range
extends through Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. The highest peak
in this region, Mount Washington, is located in the White
Mountains of New Hampshire.
The region has an early fall, hot humid
summers, and long, cold winters. There are a number of ski
resorts in the region, particularly Vermont and New
Hampshire.
The most populous states in the region are
Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
