The Midwest region is an
area designated by the United States Census as states that were
part of the Northwest Ordinance (territories ceded by the
English and French).
Usually when one thinks about the Midwest, they
think about open prairies and small towns. However, this area
is very rich in diversity and culture. Many African Americans
moved from the South to the North and stopped in the Midwest,
creating music and culture that is pure Americana.
