Vermont is the leading
producer of maple syrup in the United States. It is known for
its Green Mountain National Forest which provides hiking tails
and campsites.
The state does not have a coastline on the
Atlantic Ocean, hence no ocean beaches. The state does get
plenty of snow in the winter and has some of the best ski
slopes in the northeastern United States. The annual snowfall
averages between 60 to 100 inches depending on the elevation.
Vermont has some of the best cross-country and won-hill ski
slopes.
Vermont welcomes tourists. In winter, skiers
from around the world take their turns on the many slopes.
Summer camps are also an important tourist destination for
trout fishing and hiking. The foliage changes colors in
mid-October and another reason for tourists to visit.
A number of festivals are held during the year
including:
Marlboro Music Festival:
Public performances are given by students receiving advanced
training at the Marlboro Music School each summer.
Vermont Mozart Festival:
Founded in 1974, the festival presents programs in winter and
summer. Performers have included established musicians as well
as new talent.
