Rhode Island is the
smallest state in the United States. Almost one-tenth of the
state is covered by salt water. There are a number of
oceanfront beaches. The state is mainly flat.
The climate in summer is hot and humid. In
winter, it is cold and snowy.
The people of Rhode Island consume a lot of
coffee. Coffee milk is the official state drink. It is coffee
syrup (similar to chocolate syrup but made with coffee grounds)
mixed with milk. Strawberry milk is also popular. The number
one beverage used to be Del's Lemonade which is manufactured in
Cranston.
With a large number of beaches, Rhode Island is
a summer tourist attraction. The state itself is historic
and offers many attractions.
Rhode Island has a number of other food items
that are not commonly found outside of New England. These
include weiners which are smaller than the standard hot
dog covered in a meat sauce, chopped onions, and celery
salt. Jonnycakes are made with corn meal and water and pan
fried like pancakes.
Seafood is a specialty of the area. You will
find clams prepared a number of ways. The state has its own
version of clam chowder which is clear. The state also produces
red and white wines.
